In 2006, the Niagara Falls Housing Authority received a HOPE VI Revitalization Grant in the amount of $20 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to completely revitalize the Center Court community. The grant leverages approximately $60 million in funding, bringing an $80 million dollar transformation to the City of Niagara Falls. The revitalization plan, developed through a broad-based community planning process (including residents, the City of Niagara Falls, staff, government officials, faith-based representatives and other stakeholders) demolished the 134 obsolete units in the Center Court neighborhood with 215 new units being constructed on and around Center Court.
Dubbed the “Beloved Community”, these modern and well designed units offer a mix of homeownership and low, moderate and upper income level rental units to strengthen the overall social and economic foundation of the community and meet the growing needs of individuals and families who want to live and work in the City of Niagara Falls. This initiative also brings a comprehensive community services plan, which provides individuals and families with opportunities for job development and training, health care programs, personal and professional development, credit repair counseling, homeownership counseling and more!
